Biomass conference and expo

05.09.2010

With its subsidiary WEIS ENVIRONMENTAL® LLC in Memphis/USA, the WEIS INDUSTRIES Group offers tailormade solutions for the development, construction and implementation of a wide range of dust removal plants designed for waste and biomass power plants for the North American market. In the continuously growing environmental sector in the USA, the demand for filter technology made by BETH is steadily on the rise.

The third annual international BIOMASS Conference & Expo, held at the Minneapolis Convention Center May 4-6, 2010, once again confirmed the growing interest in energy derived from biomass in the USA. A record number of 1,700 visitors boosted attendance levels by an incredible 80 percent compared to 2008! Due to expected massive governmental investments into green infrastructure and renewable energies, Petru Sangeorzan, American Sales Manager for WEIS ENVIRONMENTAL, predicts a growing demand.

Since the tax incentives for projects involving renewable energy are starting to roll in, exploring alternative ways of generating energy becomes more and more attractive. In the USA, biomass power plants are currently producing 11,000 megawatts of power, which makes them the second largest provider of renewable energy in the nation. In a biomass power plant, biomass is used to generate electricity. Applicable methods include direct firing, co-firing, gasification, anaerobic digestion and various other procedures.

The use of BETH filters guarantees that the emissions produced in these processes do not exceed legal limits. WEIS ENVIRONMENTAL has already had quite a bit of success this year. The company’s efforts to establish itself on the US market are starting to pay off nicely. With the impressions from the BIOMASS Conference in Minneapolis and the technological know-how of BETH® Filtration GmbH, the staff at the US distribution post can look forward to a bright future.
